Bde Maka Ska drowning victim identified as teen from California
The man who died after being pulled from Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis on Tuesday has been identified as a 19-year-old from California.
Mickenzie Martin died at Hennepin County Medical Center at 8:15 p.m. shortly after he was rescued from the water at Thomas Beach. His cause of death was freshwater drowning.
Martin is from Santa Clara in California, with a GoFundMe page created in his name.
"Mick was a man who cared for his friends, family, and those who he really cared about around him," the fundraiser says.
"His presence was enough to light up a room. I always knew Mick as a strong individual( not just physically but mentally as well)."
Another man was pulled from the water at the same time as Martin. He was released after treatment at HCMC. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office initially said that it was a woman who died on Tuesday, but later issued a correction.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office has also identified the victim of a drowning on Prior Lake earlier this week.
Kevin Webb, 43, of Shakopee, was found on Upper Prior Lake Wednesday lunchtime. He had not returned home from fishing the night before.
