Bemidji man killed in intersection crash involving dump truck

A collision between a pickup and a dump truck left one driver dead Monday in Beltrami County. 

The fatal crash happened about 10 minutes before 4 p.m. in Turtle River, at the intersection of Parkers Lake Road and Birchmont Beach Road NE, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. 

Authorities say the driver of the pickup, a 64-year-old Bemidji man identified as James E. Olson, was traveling south on Parkers Lake Road when he entered the intersection at Birchmont and was struck by the dump truck driver. 

Olson was transported to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo where he died. 

The State Patrol reports that Olson was not wearing a seat belt. 

The driver of the Mack dump truck, a 28-year-old Minnesota man, was not injured.
