Update: Jail inmate gets into a fight, escapes after being brought to the hospital

Police say he was in leg shackles and an orange jumpsuit.

Bemidji police are looking for a 22-year-old man who's in leg shackles, a waist belt with restraints, and an orange jumpsuit.

Keanu Joseph Major got into a fight with another inmate in the Beltrami County Jail Thursday night, and was transported to Sanford Hospital for his injuries, the Bemidji Police Department said in a Facebook update Friday

At about 3:30 a.m., Major escaped custody of a corrections officer.

Officials searched the area, but couldn't find him.

Police issued a "code red alert" at 5 a.m., the initial Facebook post said

Police say Major is considered dangerous, so you shouldn't make contact with him. Instead, call 911 right away if you've seen him or know where he may be.

Vehicle stolen from nearby

Officials say a car was stolen around 7 a.m. from North Country Insulation, which is about a half-mile from the hospital.

Police do not know if Major was involved in the theft.

The vehicle is described as being a tan standard cab 2004 Chevrolet Silverado with Minnesota plates, 668-KKY.

Major was charged with assault

The Bemidji Pioneer says Major was arrested June 29. He's been charged with second-degree assault and failing to stop after being involved in a crash.

The criminal complaint says Major ran over someone after they got in a heated argument on their way to a wake. Major was apparently stabbed during the incident before he ran over the other person, the complaint says.

Major is described as being American Indian, 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds. He has black hair, facial hair and hazel eyes. He also has a tattoo on his neck that says "Victoria."
