Best Buy has decided not to destroy a short-lived Nintendo accessory from the 1980s, Business Insider reports. In fact, the Robotic Operating Buddy (R.O.B. for short) is on its way to the retailer's headquarters in Richfield.

"We are in the process of retrieving the robot and gaming system from the store so that we may put it on display here at our corporate headquarters in Richfield," Best Buy spokesman Jon Sandler told the publication. "A bit of nostalgia that our employees and visitors alike, are sure to enjoy!"

A Best Buy store employee spotted the rare toy robot after a customer brought it in as part of the company's recycling program.

He asked the store manager if he could take it home, but Best Buy policies prohibit employees from taking items from the bins.

The employee put his job on the line by writing about his mission to the save the R.O.B. on Reddit.

Based on eBay prices, boxed-up Nintendo Deluxe Sets sell for up to $400.
