A bicyclist has died after a "serious medical event" shortly after crashing at a Twin Cities park.

A witness told emergency responders they saw the man "go down" on the bike path at Lebanon Hills Park at 6:53 p.m. Monday, according to Eagan police.

Although it was only reported to be a minor crash and the man appeared uninjured, he went unconscious a short time later, prompting the 911 call.

When paramedics arrived, the 40-year-old biker was not breathing, and resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary evidence suggests he'd suffered a "serious medical event."

The man's identity has not yet been released. It will come at a later stage from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

"This is a tragic event and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased," the City of Eagan said.
