Bicyclist dies after falling from a wall in New Hope

The case is still under investigation by police.

A bicyclist was killed in a what appears to have been a freak accident in New Hope on Wednesday night.

New Hope police say that the cyclist died after going over a retaining wall just before midnight on Bass Lake Road, near Winnetka Avenue.

Details of the victim have not yet been released, with police only saying that they're an adult, and that an autopsy is expected.

The incident was reported around 10:15 p.m., with authorities told someone had fallen from a wall, but when officers arrived they couldn't find the cyclist.

The Star Tribune reports police were called a short time later by the manager at Midas car repair, on Winnetka Avenue, who said they were with an unconscious man.

Officers started lifesaving efforts when they found them, but were ultimately unsuccessful and the rider was pronounced dead.

In an email to BMTN, New Hope police said the incident "appears to be an accident" but that it remains under investigation by the department and the Medical Examiner's Office.
