Bicyclist killed in collision on Hwy. 36 in eastern Twin Cities

A 67-year-old from St. Paul was killed.

A bicyclist was killed in the eastern Twin Cities after he was in a collision with a pickup truck.

According to the State Patrol, the pickup driver was heading west on Hwy. 36, approaching Hilton Trail in Pine Springs at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday.

It was at that point a bicyclist cut straight across the exit ramp in front of the pickup, with the pickup hitting it at the start of the ramp.

The bicyclist suffered fatal injuries. He has been identified as Gary Bernard Michel, 67, of St. Paul.

It doesn't say on the State Patrol report whether he was wearing a helmet.

The pickup driver, a 51-year-old man from Mahtomedi, was not injured.

There have been 116 fatalities on Minnesota roads so far in 2019, seven fewer than at the same time in 2018.
