Today saw the hotly-anticipated opening of Surly Brewing's new "destination brewery" in Minneapolis, and early signs point to it being a hit.

The beer hall opened its doors to patrons at 11 a.m. this morning, marking an end to a 3-year journey for the craft brewer that involved a change in liquor laws and building its $34 million brewing and taproom facility near University Avenue SE, MPR reports.

The complex features a 100-seat restaurant, a two-acre beer garden with outdoor seating, a soon-to-open events center, and also offers tour of its brewing facility.

Metro Transit is offering free rides on its bus and light rail lines to those visiting the taproom on its opening weekend. It can be found between Westgate Drive and Prospect Park on the Green Line.
