Black Friday shoppers greeted by snow, slippery roads

Thousands of early Black Friday shoppers bundled up outside big-box retailers as snow fell in many parts of the state overnight. The Star Tribune reports anywhere from one-half to three inches fell across the metro creating slick roads that sent a few drivers into ditches.

The National Weather Service says this is the first measurable snow of the season in central Minnesota. Strong winds also contribute to the blustery conditions. Wind at 52 mph was reported near the airport in Wilmar.

Over five inches were recorded at the Duluth airport leaving roadways with a glaze of hard-packed snow and ice for treacherous travel. The Duluth News Tribune also reported several downed power lines.

The Pioneer Press says temperatures will only make it to the high 20s Friday with wind gusts reaching more than 30 mph.

As for drivers, the Minnesota State Patrol is advising travelers to slow down:
