Bloomington woman dies in crash on southwest Twin Cities highway
A 76-year-old Bloomington woman died in a crash after she pulled out in front of another vehicle, according to authorities.
Sharon Thran was behind the wheel of a Chevy Spark Thursday afternoon in Sand Creek Township, the State Patrol said. At about 5:15 p.m., she pulled out from the Bluff Drive approach and attempted to cross 169 Highway, just south of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival grounds.
The Spark ended up in front of a Chevy Equinox heading southbound on the highway. The driver of the Equinox, 22-year-old Anthony Powell of Shakopee, was unable to stop, according to the State Patrol.
The cars collided, and Thran was pronounced dead at the scene. Powell suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Both drivers were wearing a seat belt and alcohol does not appear to be involved, the agency said.
