Boat launch conditions vary as fishing opener approaches
With Minnesota's fishing opener approaching, the Associated Press reports conditions of boat launches across the state vary widely.
The Department of Natural Resources said it might not be able to get crews to all DNR launches in time for the Saturday opener. The DNR cannot perform inspections and repairs on ramps, and installation of docks, can’t be done until the ice is off a lake. It’s particularly an issue on lakes in northern Minnesota.
Wintry conditions caused Gov. Scott Walker to skip the Wisconsin Governors Fishing Opener this weekend because a foot of snow in the Bayfield County. The event was to be held at Lake Namekagon. Some northern lakes in Wisconsin still had 20 inches of ice.
Governor Dayton will drop a line in Park Rapids for the annual Minnesota Governor's Fishing Opener, set for May 11.
