Authorities in Colorado say hikers have discovered the remains of a Minnesota father and son who disappeared in the Rocky Mountains in April.

KSTP reports an Alpine Mountain Rescue Team was sent to the site on Mt. Evans to recover the bodies and turn them over to a coroner's office for identification.

A family spokeswoman later told FOX 9 authorities had confirmed the bodies were those of Damian McManus, 51 and Evan McManus, 18, both of St. Louis Park.

The McManuses were on a spring break hiking trip to the mountains when they were last seen on April 2. Family members reported them missing four days later.

A rescue crew located their car in a parking lot at the Echo Lake Campground but the search for the pair was hampered by fresh snowfall and was suspended after a few days.

The search resumed after the snow melted and just this week a crew of four Minnesota firefighters flew to Colorado to help revive the effort.

CBS4 in Denver says more than a dozen Colorado search and rescue crews took part on foot, by snowmobile, and through the air.

Friends and family members have maintained a Facebook page dedicated to the search for the McManuses. On Thursday it included a post that read in part:

It appears the agonizing search is over. The finality is reality. The secrets of the Mt. now revealed. Such a surge of mixed emotions! A HUGE Thank You to all the searchers & those who prayed.
