Body found in burned car in Illinois confirmed as former Stillwater teacher

Authorities have confirmed that the body found inside a burned car near Chicago is that of a former Stillwater teacher.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office confirmed on Thursday that 56-year-old Kathleen Ryan died in the vehicle, having been identified via dental records.

The Milwaukee resident had been reported missing by her family when she failed to turn up to watch a basketball game with her son Illinois on Saturday.

Her vehicle was later found burned with human remains inside it.

Ryan previously taught at Stillwater Area High School, where she was the economics curriculum director for the district K-12 while teaching micro and macro economics to seniors.

In its statement, the Lake Area Sheriff John Idleberg said: "Our detectives continue working with the Lake County Coroner's Office, Milwaukee Police Department, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal to determine what happened.

"We know Kathleen was very loved by her family and those who knew her, and we are working diligently to find answers for them."
