St. Paul police say the body pulled from the Mississippi River in St. Paul Wednesday afternoon was identified as Kira Trevino.

Around 1:30 p.m., the body of the 30-year-old St. Paul woman was spotted underneath a barge just south of the Robert Street Bridge by a passerby who called 911.

Trevino was last seen leaving her job at the Mall of America on Feb. 21.

Her husband, Jeffery Trevino, 39, is charged with second-degree murder and pleaded not guilty. His trial is set to begin May 28.

The Ramsey County Attorney's Office filed charges against Jeffery Trevino in late February based on the large amount of blood found in Kira Trevino's car and at the Trevino's St. Paul home.

Other evidence in the case includes a bag found in Keller Regional Park in Maplewood that contained clothes and a bloody pillow, matching Kira Trevino's DNA.

Volunteers and law enforcement spent several weeks searching for her body. Search boats were launched in the Mississippi River in Dakota County just two weeks ago.

“I’m happy that we found her and that we can bring her home,’’ Jay Steger, Kira’s father, tells the Star Tribune. “We’ve been searching a long time.”

Kira Trevino's body is currently at the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office. Police are not saying how she was killed.

The Pioneer Press reports Dennis Gerhardstein, spokesperson for the county attorney, declined to say whether the office would send the case to the grand jury for a possible first-degree murder indictment.
