Police are investigating the death of a person whose body was found near train tracks in northwest Rochester Wednesday morning.
The discovery was made by someone riding their bike in the area, who found the body near tracks at 5th Street and 3rd Avenue Northwest at around 6:30 a.m.
No details have been released about the victim at this stage.
In a call with local media, police said they believe the victim was struck by the train, but they're unsure yet whether it was accidental or suicide, per the Post Bulletin.
There were 1,099 pedestrian-train fatalities and injuries in the U.S. last year, Operation Lifesaver says.
In Minnesota, there were eight pedestrian-train deaths in 2020, down from 10 in 2019 and 15 in 2018, the Federal Railroad Administration says.
