Authorities in Blue Earth County have confirmed that they have found the body of a boy missing in the Blue Earth River.
Denilson Fidel Funes De Leon, 11, was swimming with friends at the Rapidan Dam County Park southwest of Mankato when he was pulled under by the current.
Search efforts on Saturday evening and Sunday proved unsuccessful.
On Monday afternoon, the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the boy's body was found just after noon about a mile downriver from where he was last seen.
The park is located alongside the Rapidan Dam, offering access to the Blue Earth River along with other facilities including a campsite.
There were three drownings in Minnesota over the weekend, with a 50-year-old man drowning while trying to retrieve an inflatable swimming toy near Cold Spring, while another man died after entering Lake Superior near the Ore Docks.
There have been fewer lake deaths in Minnesota so far this year. Figures from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety show that as of July 14, there were 6 boating fatalities and 12 non-boating drownings in 2019.
Last year, there had been 9 boating fatalities and 15 non-boating drownings by the same date.
