The search for a missing 7-year-old boy in southern Minnesota had a tragic ending Tuesday night as the boy's body was recovered in a pond he had been swimming in.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says it received a report around 4:18 p.m. that the boy was missing, with word that he had been swimming with friends in Naylor's Pond on 160th Avenue, north of Highway 14 in rural Dodge County.

The caller said the boy had not been seen for about 10 minutes.

Authorities arrived at the scene and immediately began searching the area, but it wasn't until 7:37 p.m. that divers recovered his body from a deeper part of the pond, near the area where his friends had last seen him.

The Olmsted County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy but it is believed that the child died from an accidental drowning.

No names are being released to the public pending notification of family.
