The body of a 29-year-old Denver man was recovered in Makwa Lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness after being reported missing Wednesday night.

The Associated Press reports Chase Winkey jumped from a cliff into the water and never surfaced.

Divers located the man's body Thursday in about 20 feet of water near the cliff that he and another person jumped from.

The medical examiner in Hibbing will conduct an autopsy.

Makwa Lake is in the heart of the federal wilderness area, about 35 miles northeast of Ely, according to the Duluth News Tribune.

Near Taylors Falls last month, University of St. Thomas student Alex Vitalis, 20, died after jumping from a cliff into the St. Croix River.
