A "very active" investigation is ongoing after the discovery of a missing Moorhead man's body, according to Moorhead Police Department.

The remains of 28-year-old Marwan Asaad were believed to have been found Thursday, with police saying the body has been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for a formal positive identification.

Asaad, who is from Kurdistan and had been in the U.S. for about a year, hadn't been seen since Nov. 12. Earlier this week, Moorhead PD issued a release requesting the public to "thoroughly check all of their properties, both in the metro and rural areas."

Asaad's body was found on the 2900 block of 17th Street S, where the vehicle – a black Hyundai Elantra – Asaad was driving was also discovered.

"Investigators are currently processing the scene, and this is still a very active investigation," Moorhead PD said.
