Body of missing teen swimmer found in Bush Lake
The search for a missing swimmer has ended in the discovery of a body on a Hennepin County lake.
The 18-year-old male was swimming at Bloomington's Bush Lake with friends on Saturday afternoon when he disappeared, a news release from the Hennepin County Sheriff says.
One of the friends told police the victim was "swimming toward a dock approximately 100 feet from the beach" when he slipped beneath the water and did not resurface.
He was reported to have been "struggling" at the time.
Bloomington police and firefighters responded to the 911 call before the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Water Patrol unit took up the search.
Few other details are available, and the young man has not been named yet. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will identify him, the sheriff says.
DNR statistics show there have been six "non-boating drownings" in Minnesota so far this year; the Bush Lake drowning would bring that total to seven.
Body found in Red River in Moorhead
Meanwhile, also on Saturday afternoon, authorities in Moorhead responded to a report of a possible body floating in the Red River in Johnson Park. They soon arrived and confirmed it was indeed a body, according to a news release.
Moorhead police are working on identifying the person and notifying family members. Few other details are available.
