Body recovered from Mississippi River in Minneapolis

The body was reported around 9:20 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities are investigating the cause of death after a body was recovered from the Mississippi River in Minneapolis on Sunday morning. 

A report of a "possible human body" was called in around 9:20 a.m. in the area of 54th Street and Minnehaha Park Drive. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and a Water Patrol unit launched a boat and recovered the body. 

“Our investigators will be working with the Medical Examiner’s staff to determine how the body ended up in the river,” Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson said, adding that “our condolences go out to the friends and family who lost a loved one.”

The identity and cause of death of the victim will be released at a later stage by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.
