Police have confirmed an improvised explosive device (IED) was found near the post office in Prescott, Wisconsin, on Sunday.
A member of the public reported the suspicious item on Campbell Street just before 10 a.m., with police blocking off and evacuating residents and businesses on the road.
At the time, police said that "while this object might look like fireworks to some, there is substantial reason to believe it is not."
The police's suspicions were apparently correct, with the St. Paul Bomb Squad arriving shortly after 1 p.m. and confirming it was an IED.
The squad made the object safe, and its creation and placement is now the subject of an investigation.
