Both drivers die in head-on crash on Hwy. 55

Two people are dead after a head-on crash on Hwy. 55 in the western suburbs on Thursday morning. 

According to the Corcoran Police Department, the crash happened at about 6:48 a.m. on the 23000 block of Hwy. 55 near the Medina border. First responders attempted life-saving efforts but both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. 

Highway 55 was closed from County Road 19 to Pioneer Trail for about five hours before being reopened around noon. 

The identity of both drivers is being withheld pending notification of family members. 

What caused the crash is under investigation. 

Motorcyclist killed in crash in Bloomington

In a separate crash Thursday morning, a 20-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a passenger vehicle in Bloomington. 

Bloomington Police say the vehicle was traveling north on Fremont Avenue when the motorcycle, going east on 86th Street, crashed into it. 

Police are investigating.
