A report of a boy falling and hitting his head has turned into a child abuse investigation in Fergus Falls.
It began on Thursday morning when local police officers responded to a report that an 11-year-old boy had "slipped, fell and suffered a head injury" at a residence on the 1100 block of Mill Street.
The officers felt that the child's "serious injuries" were not consistent with "what was being described," and investigators arrived at both the scene and the hospital where the boy was taken for his injuries, a news release says.
"The investigation that ensued uncovered that the 11-year-old had been assaulted by an adult who was living in the same home," police say.
As a result, a 56-year-old man was arrested for first-degree assault, malicious punishment of a child, and felony child endangerment. He's currently being held at the Otter Tail County jail.
Bring Me The News does not typically name suspects until they've been formally charged with a crime.
His relationship to the victim is not clear, and there's no word yet on the boy's condition.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
