A young boy who was reported missing in Dakota County this week is now fighting for his life after being found underwater in a drainage culvert.
According to a release from the local sheriff's department, the deputies who responded to the call about the missing 13-year-old found a shoe near a drainage culvert in Eagan, "leading to a belief that the missing juvenile may have fallen into open water."
A dive team was brought in and "within minutes" found him underwater and unresponsive. Medics began lifesaving measures and transported him to the hospital, where his current condition is unknown.
The boy, whose last known location before the divers found him was the 3000 block of Eagandale Place, has not been identified.
"The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident and reminds all that ice is not trustworthy," the release says. "The Sheriff’s Office and Eagan Police Department extend their thoughts and prayers to the child’s family and friends."
