Boy, 13, seriously injured after ATV crashes into deer

The teen's injuries are fortunately not life threatening.

A 13-year-old boy is in a serious condition in a hospital after the ATV he was riding hit a deer.

The boy, identified by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office as Alan Lotthamer, of New London, was driving on 40th Street Northeast in Burbank Township at 6 a.m. Wednesday when a deer jumped out in front of his ATV.

Officers arrived to find him lying on the road. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he's being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff's office says the teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Assisting at the scene was the New London Ambulance, Willmar Ambulance, Lakes Area First Responders, the Minnesota State Patrol and the Minnesota DNR.
