A 6-year-old died after being pulled from the water at a park in Rochester Saturday evening.

The incident happened at Cascade Lake Park, where the boy was originally reported missing having last been seen in the lake.

A group of bystanders formed a chain and searched the lake, eventually finding him.

But despite CPR at the scene and transportation to Mayo Clinic-Saint Marys, the boy later died.

He has been identified as Deon McBride, of Chicago, whose mother said in a GoFundMe campaign he was in Rochester to stay with his father for the summer.

"I need help bringing my son home to ... lay him to rest the correct way," Jasmin McBride said.

"My heart is hurting In i have not slept. I don't in will never wish this pain on anyone."

"I lost something very special. He was more than just my son, he was my best friend," she told KIMT 3. "He used to tell me every day how beautiful I was. He was so polite he always tried to help me."
