Boy dies after he and his twin were left in locked vehicle in Hibbing
A 3-year-old boy died after he and his twin brother were found unresponsive in a locked vehicle in Hibbing on Monday.
The other juvenile male was released from St. Mary’s in Duluth. Possible charges against the boys' father have been sent to the St. Louis County Attorney’s office for review.
According to Hibbing Police Department, the boys were reported missing from the 4200 block of 4th Street the Leetonia neighborhood of Hibbing around 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Police and residents from the neighborhood searched for the boys, who were located by a citizen inside a locked vehicle near their home. An officer then busted out a window to get the kids out of the vehicle.
"Both boys were unresponsive and in medical distress due to the extreme heat inside of the vehicle," police said in a news release.
One boy was airlifted to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, where he died, police confirmed on Wednesday. The other boy has since been released from a hospital in Duluth.
