The boyfriend of 16-year-old Anna Hurd, who was found dead in a Maplewood park in February, agreed to a plea deal Friday, the Star Tribune reports.

As part of the agreement, 17-year-old Anthony Mitchell of Maplewood pleaded guilty as an adult and will receive a 22-year prison sentence.

The Pioneer Press reports his official sentencing date is June 25.

Had Mitchell been tried and convicted in juvenile court, the teen would have been released from detention within 18 months to two years, which Ramsey County District Court Judge Gail Chang Bohr said isn't long enough.

Hurd was found stabbed to death near a walking path in Hillside Park. Mitchell told police that he discovered her body and called police.

Investigators later found Hurd's blood in Mitchell's home, according to the charges.

Witnesses told police that Anna was planning to end her relationship with Mitchell and go to Texas without him.
