Brainerd is latest city to be 'Occupied'

The Occupy Wall Street movement has come a long way from New York. For nearly a month, the campaign to denounce social inequality and corporate greed has spread swiftly throughout the nation. Minneapolis was 'occupied' last week, and now the effort is branching out even further.

Brainerd, Duluth and Rochester are just the latest Minnesota communities to stage such rallies. The Minnesota Independent says the movement is making its way to Minnesota's smaller communities. Most have ongoing demonstrations and plans for more.

For those who haven't seen the protests, Jeff Severns Guntzel at MinnPost writes: "It is not like anything you think it is."

There was plenty of fanfare in Brainerd Wednesday. According to the Brainerd Dispatch, over 50 protestors crowded in front of city hall, picket signs in hand, to show their solidarity with Occupy Wall Street.

While organizers in Duluth, happy with their rally's success, are tentatively planning demonstrations in Superior, Wis.

And a Hamline University professor is grabbing some headlines after posting a photo on his Facebook page in support of the protests. David Davies says he's growing increasingly frustrated over the amount of debt that his students are taking on.
