Two people are dead and Eden Prairie has seen its first homicide in three years. Police responded to a report of shots fired in Eden Prairie around 7 a.m. Saturday morning after a neighbor reported hearing the shots in another second floor apartment.
The Star Tribune reports that officers feared there may have been a standoff at the Eden Place apartment complex so they sent in a SWAT team and a bomb squad robot as they investigated.
Police went door-to-door to evacuate neighbors in the building. Dozens of residents were evacuated for more than five hours, but they have been allowed to return.
KMSP reports that authorities did recover weapons, but they have not said what type.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will release the identities and the cause of death.
Five police departments helped Eden Prairie police secure the area.
