Brief lockdown in Bloomington after man scales roof during police chase
A school and a mosque in Bloomington had to be locked down Friday morning after a suspect being chased by police climbed onto its roof.
Police initially started chasing the suspect after noticing improper license plates on his vehicle at Chicago Avenue and American Boulevard around 11:30 a.m.
The driver fled initially in his car before fleeing on foot, heading to the Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center/Success Academy school off of Park Avenue, causing the mosque and school to go into lockdown.
When he got there, Bloomington Police Department says he climbed onto the roof and refused to surrender.
He eventually relented and was taken into custody, with local firefighters helping him get down from the roof safelty.
"This person has no affiliation with Dar Al Farooq or Success Academy, and there is no ongoing threat to the community," Bloomington Police Department said.
"The Bloomington Police Department would like to thank the Dar Al Farooq and Success Academy staff and community for their cooperation and patience, which allowed us to bring this incident to a safe conclusion."
