Former influential Minnesota Senate staffer Michael Brodkorb has been charged with DUI, stemming from a one-car crash Jan. 23 in Mendota Heights that left him injured.

WCCO and KARE 11 report the Lilydale city attorney has charged Brodkorb with four counts, including fourth-degree DUI and having an alcohol concentration of at least .08 (the legal limit) but less than .20, one count of careless driving and one count of no seat belt.

Minnesota State Patrol investigators say Brodkorb had a blood alcohol level of .10 the night of the crash.

They say Brodkorb's 2004 Subaru Forester hit a bridge wall and came to rest against the concrete barrier.

Brodkorb is embroiled in a lawsuit he filed against the Minnesota State Senate after he was fired, following an affair with then-Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch. Koch has given several interviews lately, alleging a GOP power grab.

Former Senate staffer Michael Brodkorb has returned to his first love: Blogging. Though, he swears his new endeavor will be nothing like his liberal-bashing blog "Minnesota Democrats Exposed." The first post comes as Brodkorb continues his legal fight with the state of Minnesota over his dismissal from the Senate.

The state of Minnesota and former Republican Senate staffer Michael Brodkorb on Thursday were ordered into confidential settlement talks by U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge Arthur J. Boylan, the Star Tribune reports. The sessions are to begin Sept. 24. The judge asked both sides to submit confidential letters that summarize their settlement positions, and he put a gag order on both sides to prevent them from talking to the media, the newspaper says.
