Former state Senate GOP communications director Michael Brodkorb, in the middle of a high-profile lawsuit against the Senate, says one of his lawyers is no longer on the case, the Star Tribune reports.

Brodkorb parted ways with attorney Phil Villaume, leaving him with a single lawyer in the case, Greg Walsh, the newspaper reported.

Brodkorb's case stems from Senate officials firing him in 2011 after he had an affair with then-Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch. He argues that he was the victim gender discrimination, claiming that female legislative staffers at the Capitol who had affairs were not fired.

Villaume left the case for reasons having to do with the public release of a document that is part of the case that was supposed to have remained under seal. The document, which lists one current and a number of former lawmakers who Brodkorb claims had affairs, was briefly posted last month on a federal court website and then removed – but not before it was obtained by several media organizations. Those media have not reported the names of the lawmakers on the list.

If the case goes to trial, it would not be until July 2014.

Minnesota Senate leaders have maintained that they don't intend to settle the case and recently approved a budget of more than $500,000 of taxpayer money to pay for legal fees until the start of the trial. They've already spent at least $228,000.

Brodkorb is seeking $600,000 in damages.
