Brooklyn Center police offer reward to help capture suspect who robbed, shot at woman

The woman was walking home during the day when she was attacked.

Brooklyn Center Police Department is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest of a suspect who robbed and assaulted a woman on Monday.

Police say they responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of 54th Avenue North at 1:30 p.m., when they found a woman with a non-life-threatening head injury she suffered in the aggravated robbery.

It's believed that the woman was walking home near 54th Avenue North and Humboldt Avenue North when a man approached her and tried to take her purse.

During the struggle, he shot at the woman, stole her purse and fled in a black vehicle, the make and model of which is unknown.

The woman was able to walk home and call 911. It's unclear if her head injury was a result of the struggle or a gunshot wound.

"We are still trying to determine that through medical records and a re-interview with the victim," Brooklyn Center Commander Richard Gabler told Bring Me The News. "We found a shell casing on the street. The victim was able to walk three blocks home after this happened and was able to speak with officers. Generally someone with a gunshot wound wouldn’t be able to do this so we are looking to clear that up."

The suspect is described as a black male, 20-30 years old, skinny and about 5-foot-10. He was wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt. His identity is unknown, but police are hoping someone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Anyone who might be able to help is asked to contact Detective John Ratajczyk at 763-503-3243 or jratajczyk@ci.brooklyn-center.mn.us. Information can also be sent anonymously by calling 952-258-5321.
