Heads up in the Rochester area: There's a buffalo on the loose.
According to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, the buffalo got loose in the area of 40th St. SW and Bamber Valley Road near Rochester. Somehow, despite it being a huge animal, nobody has really seen it.
"If you see the buffalo, please do not approach the animal and call local law enforcement at 507-328-6800," the sheriff's office said Monday.
KTTC-TV reports that the buffalo, also known as a bison, was first spotted Sunday night in the 4500 block of 42ns St. SW, noting that the buffalo was calm but became irritated as deputies approached.
Per the report, the buffalo "began to urinate profusely" in an apparent warning to the deputies. ABC 6 News says the urination warning prompted the deputies to get out of there as a safety precaution.
The buffalo weighs somewhere between 1,500 and 1,800 pounds and the DNR is working with its owner to figure out how to best handle the situation.
