Bundle up this morning – we're all in for another chilly day.

Nearly the entire state had temperatures of zero degrees or below Monday morning, with Ely, Minnesota, dropping to minus 26 degrees – and that's not with a windchill, the National Weather Service website shows.

The average temperature statewide was about minus 6 degrees, according to U.S. Airnet. The warmest place in the state was in Madison, which was a whopping 3 degrees.

If you're feeling a bit chilly just think back to Groundhog Day in 1996, when the state record low temperature was set. It dipped to minus 60 degrees near Tower, Minnesota that day, the National Weather Service says.

Temperatures aren't expected to get out of the low teens for the Twin Cities Monday, and a few flurries are possible later in the day.

There's a better chance of snow Tuesday, with an inch or more possible in the Minnesota River Valley and southeast Minnesota, the weather service notes.

It's expected to remain on the cold side through Thursday, but a warmup is expected Friday into this weekend.

Six more weeks of winter

Phil, one of the most famous weather prognosticators, saw his shadow Monday morning, which means we're in for six more weeks of winter.

But we live in Minnesota, so even if the groundhog in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, didn't see his shadow, we'd likely still be dealing with winter for at least six more weeks.

At least winter brings some beautiful sights. Here's a picture of the Northern Lights in Embarrass Sunday night:
