Burnsville woman offers reward after thieves steal urn, husband's ashes

A Burnsville woman says she's devastated after burglars broke into her home and took off with a laptop, jewelry, coins and a pewter urn containing the ashes of her late husband.

"The only thing that means anything to me out of everything they took is the ashes," Patricia Eriksen, 58, tells KSTP.

Eriksen's husband, David, died at home in February 2010 from esophageal cancer. David and Patricia were married for 36 years.

To cope with the loss, she's been taking vacations every year on the anniversary of his death.

Last month, Eriksen was in Florida for the third anniversary of his death when her home was ransacked.

When she returned, the small silver urn with a car racing emblem that sat on her nightstand was gone. Eriksen says a second urn containing her dog's ashes is also missing.

The Pioneer Press reports Eriksen left the front door open for her nephew, who lives in the same block.

Eriksen is offering a $1,000 reward for the return of the urn. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Burnsville Police Department at 952-332-2323.
