BWCA officials monitoring nearly a dozen fires
Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness officials are keeping a close watch the blazes, most of which were sparked by lightning and most of which are less than an acre, the Duluth News Tribune reports.
A small area of the BWCA wilderness and a hiking trail were closed, and campfire restrictions are in place, the newspaper says.
The biggest fire is the 50-acre Cummings Lake fire, which has not grown much in the last few days. It's about 60 percent contained and a crew from Oregon is coming to help put it out, Northlands Newscenter reported.
The Forest Service has a web page tracking the fire.
