A convicted murderer on the run 37 years after escaping an Ohio prison in the late '70s was captured in St. Paul Thursday night.

FOX 8 in Cleveland reports Oscar Juarez, one of Ohio's "most wanted" escaped murderers, was located in the Twin Cities after spending almost four decades since his escape living under fake identities, including "Eleasor Morales Moreno."

He was sentenced to life in prison in 1975 for the fatal shooting of a Toledo man, but escaped from the Marion Correctional Institution three years later after sawing through the bars of his cell and cutting a hole in the prison's fence.

The TV station notes he also left a dummy, covered in blankets, in his bed.

KARE 11 reports that Juarez, now 66, was arrested by the United States Marshals North Star Fugitive Task Force at an apartment on the 300 block of Pierce Street, following up on a tip from the Cleveland U.S. Marshals' Cold Case Unit.

A neighbor of his told the TV station that Juarez was already a resident when he moved in, and described the fugitive as "a nice guy."

He is appearing in U.S. District Court in St. Paul Friday afternoon.

"This was one of our oldest cases that many believed to be impossible to solve," Todd Ishee, of the Ohio Adult Parole Authority, told WKYC. "Juarez was one of our most sought after fugitives due to the measures he took to escape and evade capture and his serving of a life sentence."
