Car lands in tree in fatal crash involving 21-year-old driver

A 21-year-old motorist was killed in a crash on the west side of Mille Lacs Lake on Thursday.

The State Patrol says Carlee L. Lafond, of Taconite, Minnesota, was driving a Saturn northbound on Hwy. 169 around 2:25 p.m. when she lost control while passing traffic near Harbor Drive. 

The crash report says she "swerved and lost control of vehicle, went off the road into the ditch, rolled, hit a tree, struck and landed in another tree."

Lafond was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. No further information has been released.
