Police are searching for a man suspected of stealing a car after threatening its driver with a hatchet in Moorhead.

The terrifying incident happened at 1:32 a.m. Thursday near Main Avenue and 5th Street South, where the victim told police his vehicle had been stolen by a hatchet-wielding man.

The victim said he was sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot when the suspect got into his car and asked for a ride.

He then got out the hatchet and threatened to hit him with it if he didn't do what he was told. The victim ran and called police, while the suspect stole the vehicle.

The vehicle was found 10 minutes later, unoccupied, in the 500 block of 32nd Avenue South, with the hatchet found inside.

A Fargo PD K-9 officer tried to track the suspect, but wasn't located.

The suspect is described as white, around 20 years old and wearing blue jeans. He may not have been wearing a shirt.
