Carlton County attorney accused of DWI

Thom Pertler, 47, was booked into the St. Louis County Jail on suspicion of drunken driving Tuesday afternoon. The Duluth News Tribune reports the Carlton County attorney refused to submit to a chemical test of his blood, breath or urine. Pertler has been the county attorney since 2005.

Carlton Co. attorney apologizes for drunken driving

Carlton County Attorney Thom Pertler apologized to his family, colleagues and constituents for a drunken driving incident. He's been in an inpatient treatment program at Hazelden Treatment Center in Center City, Minn., for the past month. He's back at work this week. Pertler is scheduled to make his first appearance in St. Louis County Court on the charges against him in early September.

County attorney charged with DWI now in rehab

His lawyer says the Carlton County Attorney has checked into the Hazelden treatment center. His blood alcohol content was three times the legal limit to drive when he was pulled over earlier this month. The County Board of Commissioners is still awaiting word on if and when he plans to return to work.

DWI crackdown targets 13 counties

From now through September law enforcers will focus on the counties that in recent years have accounted for nearly half of the alcohol-related deaths on the roads. That includes Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka, St. Louis, Dakota, Wright, Olmsted, Rice, Washington, Stearns, Sherburne, Scott and Carver.
