Cass County crash leaves 2 people dead, another seriously injured

A head-on collision in north central Minnesota Friday afternoon killed the drivers of both cars and left the only passenger seriously injured.

The State Patrol's incident report says the crash occurred on Highway 210 in Cass County. It says 51-year-old James Freeman of Brainerd was driving a Chevy Cobalt that crossed the center line, striking a Toyota Prius driven by


Marilyn Rich, 66, of Fargo. Rich's husband, Gene Rich, 81, was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale for treatment of his injuries.

The Brainerd Dispatch says the accident site was near Sylvan Town Hall, which is east of Pillager in the Brainerd Lakes Area.

Pillager Area Fire and Rescue Chief Randy Lee told the Dispatch a fire crew from Brainerd was called to extract the drivers' bodies from the wreckage.

The State Patrol told the newspaper all three people in the crash were wearing seat belts and the highway was dry when the crash occurred at 12:22 p.m.
