Cause of explosion at Brooklyn Center day care probed

Investigators aim to determine exactly what caused a Tuesday afternoon explosion that blew out a wall at a church day care in Brooklyn Center, the Star Tribune reports. It's likely the building's boiler exploded, a CenterPoint Energy spokeswoman told the newspaper.

Six preschoolers and a teacher who were in the Brookdale Christian Center building were not hurt in the incident, the newspaper reports. They were evacuated safely.

“[The students] knew what to do, because our teachers teach them the drills,” The Rev. Bernard Bouissieres told WCCO.

Investigators plan to wait until the building is structurally secure before venturing in to determine what caused the explosion, FOX 9 reported.

Initial reports suggested a gas explosion, WCCO reported. The incident restricted traffic in the area Tuesday afternoon, WCCO reported.
