UPDATE 3:30 P.M. FRIDAY
The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office issued a release detailing what led to three people being killed and a deputy being shot during a Thursday night incident in and near Nevis, Minnesota.
According to the release, a 911 call about a shooting on the 100 block of Paul Bunyan Trail in Nevis was made just before 8 p.m. Deputies arrived to the scene and found a woman dead, later learning that a suspect fled in the woman's vehicle with another victim in the back of the car who had also been shot dead.
Law enforcement tracked the suspect down around 9:15 p.m., leading to a 20-minute chase in which the suspect fired on pursuing vehicles, striking one deputy in the process.
The pursuit ended with the suspect going into the ditch in the 27000 block of County Road 119 near 190th Street.
The suspect got out of the vehicle and a shootout with a deputy ensued. The suspect got back into the vehicle and was later found dead. It's unclear how he died.
The deputy shot by the suspect during the chase suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to hospitals in Park Rapids and Fargo for treatment.
The deputy in the shootout with the suspect has been placed on standard administrative leave and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation.
The bodies of the suspect and two victims have been transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy and identification.
Three people have died and a sheriff's deputy was injured in a shootout in northern Minnesota, according to reports.
Information is still coming in about the chaotic circumstances of Thursday evening, but WDAY reports that shots were fired in several locations, including when the suspect and a deputy engaged in a shootout.
One person was found dead in the home of a daycare in Nevis, while two others – one of them the suspect – were found shot dead on a rural road a few miles outside of Nevis.
The scene unfolded after sheriff's deputies from Hubbard and Cass County were called to the 27000 block of County Road 119 – near 190th Street, southeast of Nevis – at around 9:15 p.m.
The deputy was injured while exchanging fire with the suspect and his squad car ended up in a snowbank.
The Star Tribune reports he was taken to a hospital in Fargo, where his condition is not known, though WDAY notes he's expected to recover.
At this stage it's not clear who is responsible for each shooting, including the death of the suspect.
