The driver who crashed his SUV into a Starbucks coffee shop in Eagan earlier this week had consumed a whole bottle of Fireball a short time before.

That's according to charges filed in Dakota County against Ihar Daniliuk, 44, of Eagan, who told police he was parking his vehicle when he accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.

His SUV then jumped over a curb and smashed into the Starbucks at Central Park Common Drive, hitting a young man and woman who were sat at a table outside the coffee shop.

The pair suffered "substantial" injuries as a result of the collision, which was witnessed by several people inside the shop at the time.

The woman suffered lacerations to her face and a broken leg, while the man suffered a broken leg, three broken ribs, a fractured spine, a dislocated hip and internal bleeding.

Daniliuk got out of his car to help at the scene, and when later questioned by police if he'd been drinking prior to the crash, said he'd had Fireball.

"This appears to be another example of impaired driving which has caused serious injuries to two individuals in our community." said Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom.

Daniliuk has been charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operation, with his bail set at $150,000 without conditions and $25,000 with conditions. His next court appearance is Sept. 18.
