The father who sparked an Amber Alert after allegedly kidnapping his own children had earlier tried to stab his wife with scissors.
Six felony charges have been filed against Chi Nu Xiong, 30, following the incident on Friday that prompted such concern from authorities that they issued an Amber Alert.
Xiong had allegedly kidnapped his four sons, aged 6, 7, 8 and 9, and sent messages and videos to his wife telling her he was going to kill himself and the children.
Within a few minutes of the Amber Alert being issued at 5 p.m. Friday, Xiong and the children were found safely in Inver Grove Heights.
The criminal complaint against Xiong reveals that earlier in the day, police had been called to a domestic assault report made by his wife at a BP gas station on the 1200 block of White Bear Avenue in St. Paul.
She was with Xiong and their 12-year-old daughter, and told police Xiong had grown agitated having smoked meth earlier in the day.
He was "acting crazy," his wife told police, and then pulled out a pair of scissors, trying to stab her in the chest with them. She fled the vehicle with their daughter before he drove off.
A short time later she started getting text messages and phone calls from Xiong, including videos of himself in the car with their four sons. In the videos, Xiong said he'd picked up the kids and was going to kill himself and them.
