Charges: Hinckley man bragged about illegally hunting deer, bear, protected gray wolf

Brady Tyler Harth, 30, also bragged about the hunts on social media, according to charges.

A Hinckley man is facing charges that accuse him of illegally hunting multiple animals, including the protected gray wolf, and then bragging about it online.

Brady Tyler Harth, 30, was charged with three gross misdemeanors and two misdemeanors related to illegal hunting in Pine County District Court last week.

According to court documents, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources received a tip about Harth in January. A search warrant later found multiple instances in which Harth bragged about illegal hunting on his social media between 2021 and 2022.

The first post, dated Sep. 26 of 2021, shows Harth posing with a dead bear and a bow. Records show he dropped off the bear at a meat processor the same day.

Harth did not have a license to hunt bears at the time.

On Nov. 8 of 2021, Harth sent photos of himself with a dead gray wolf and a rifle. Gray wolves are federally protected and illegal to hunt recreationally in Minnesota.

And on Sep. 19 of 2022, Harth posted a picture of a dead buck with the caption, “Got it done last night.” At the time, Harth did not have a deer archery license.

Records also show he took the buck to a meat processor at around the same time.

DNR working on framework of first wolf hunt

The Game and Fish bill signed into law Thursday allows Minnesotans to legally hunt and trap wolves for the first time in nearly four decades. The legislation gives the DNR authority to set harvest limits and conduct a hunter lottery. About 3,000 wolves live in Minnesota right now and the agency plans to reduce the population by about 400 this fall. The gray wolf was removed from the Federal Endangered Species List in January.
