Charges: Man posed with fake rifle, threatened Mayo Clinic staff on Facebook

Facebook posts show a Minnesota man holding a replica assault rifle and threatening Mayo Clinic workers after an apparently painful physical therapy appointment, according to charges filed Monday.

Adam Bussman, 36 of Pine Island, is charged with two counts of threats of violence, and one count of possessing a controlled substance. (Click here to read the criminal complaint.)

According to the criminal complaint, Bussman told authorities he made two Facebook posts last Thursday within an hour of that day's appointment at Mayo Clinic.

In one, he's holding what looks like an assault rifle, though a small orange tip on the muzzle indicates it's a replica; with the photo he wrote, "Touch it again, I [expletive] dare you. Not fond of the fill-in therapist," the complaint says.

KTTC's Devin Bartolotta published a screengrab of the post on her Facebook page.

A second photo shows Bussman's appointment sheet that identifies a therapist, and includes the caption, "Intern hunting I go..." the charges state.

Mayo Clinic security was made aware of the posting and alerted Rochester police on Friday – officers arrested Bussman at his work, and found a small plastic bag on him with a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the criminal complaint.

He told police the first post with the gun was made out of frustration, after the therapist moved his hand during the therapy session and it hurt.

Facebook posts by Bussman indicate he was recovering after slicing open his hand with a saw.

He's due in court later this month. Combined, he faces up to 11 years and one day in prison, and/or up to a $23,000 fine.

His arrest came in the wake of a shooting at a resource center for individuals with developmental disabilities in San Bernardino, California. The attack left 14 people dead and 21 others injured, as CNN reports.
